About this Website.

Introduction

The "Ottawa River Sailing Page" is a non-commercial website about the local sailing community in Canada's National Capital Region, and is focused primarily on the segment of the Ottawa River between Lac Deschenes and Chats Fall Dam (although does provide some information about sailing on other parts of the river). This web site is not affiliated with any business, sailing or yacht club, government agency, or other organization involved with the local boating community.

Purpose

In its early days, the "Ottawa River Sailing Page" serviced many of the online needs of the Ottawa area sailing community because local clubs did not yet have effective web sites (if any at all). Today, as is common in many areas, the local clubs have excellent web sites which provide volumes of valuable information. However, there is still no common thread linking all the local online resources together under one roof. The "Ottawa River Sailing Page" attempts to fulfill this function.

History

The "Ottawa River Sailing Page" has been online and in continuous operation in one form or another since 1995. It was one the first "regional" website about sailing on the WWW, and one of the first Canadian sites about sailing.

Status

This "Ottawa River Sailing Page" has been developed and is maintained on a "hobby basis" by Michael McGoldrick. Comments can be sent to him at: mm2@mcgoldrick.ca

This "Ottawa River Sailing Page" is a non-commercial site which does not seek, nor accepts payment for listings, notices, links, or other information included on the site. As already stated, it is not affiliated with any business, sailing or yacht club, government agency, or other organization involved with the local boating community, and does not endorse or attempt to screen any services, businesses, products, organizations (although the author reserves the right to determine the content of the site).

Submissions

The section about "news, upcoming events, and announcements", features major items or matters that may be of interest to the general sailing community in the area. It is not meant to go into great details, or list every event or development. The author of this web site attempts to gather this information on his own. If , however, you are aware of something that you think should be included, you can sent me a short submission at mm2@mcgoldrick.ca. (However, there are no guarantees that I'll be able to include everything, or that I'll even be around to act on your submission in a timely manner - this site is a one-person operation).

Likewise, people can send me information about a business, organization, or service that may be of interest to the local sailing community for possible inclusion in the Directory of Services at mcsail@magma.ca. Again, there are no guarantees that I'll be able to include everything.

Information and listings on the Ottawa River Sailing Page are at the discretion of the author of this website.

Due to the volume of e-mail I sometimes get, I'm not in a position to provide long responses to inquiries. If you do e-mail me, please indicate which site you are referring to (I have several web sites).

Who is Michael McGoldrick

Michael McGoldrick lives in Ottawa and has been sailing for over 20 years. His articles have appeared in Canadian Yachting, Sailing Canada, Québec Yachting & Voile, and GAM. He was a regular contributor to Sailing Canada and contributing editor to Québec Yachting & Voile in the 1980s.

Over the years Michael McGoldrick and his family have sailed out of home ports on Lake Champlain, Lake Ontario, and the Ottawa River. They are currently on their eighth sailboat. (This progression of boats was not always the result of "two footitis" - depending on where they were sailing, they have stepped down to smaller designs.) Michael McGoldrick and his family are members of the Nepean Sailing Club. They recently sold their 29 foot cruising sailboat, and currently race a Shark on the Ottawa River.
